| Roan Viljoen |
It began with a dream, a dream of two friends. Roan Viljoen and Hennie de Bod wanted to share their
love for good quality wine with their friends and the world. After three years of sourcing for only the best
and finest quality possibly made by humans, they started to bottle the fruit of their search, and the first bottles of
Leeuwenzicht Wines were produced.
Sadly Roan Viljoen passed away December 2008, but his dream lives on.
To reach the dream, the acclaimed wine maker/cellar master, Erhard Roothman, is keeping a 'lion's eye'
on the process. Born and bred in the Western Cape wine lands, Erhard studied wine making at the Elsenburg
Agricultural College, Stellenbosch. Being wine maker and cellar master at Jonkheer Wines, he won several awards for his exceptional skill.
Apart from being wine maker of the year in 1985, he also won more prestigious awards:
|
South Africa Championship Wine Show - Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals
International wine and spirit competition Awards - Gold, Silver and Bronze
General Smuts Winemaker of the year 1985
Gold Medal at London wine and spirit competition - 1994
Vins du Monde Paris - Gold and Silver Medals
MTdaille d' Argent - Muscat d' Frontignon - Gold Awards
Decanteer World Wine Awards - Silver Award for Pinotage
Wine of the Month Awards - Best Value red and white wines
"If heaven weren’t fond of wine
wine star would not be found in heaven.
if earth weren’t fond of wine
there could be no wine spring on earth.
since heaven and earth are fond of wine,
in heaven being fond of wine can’t be judged wrong."
